Community Benefits
- The Watt & Shand Building, a beloved
landmark seen as the "heart and soul" of downtown Lancaster,
will be adapted and reused for many new generations to enjoy. It is one of the key icons that define
the city's architectural heritage.
- Project construction will generate:
- 500 construction
jobs
- $110 million in Lancaster County-produced goods and
services
- $40 million in personal income
- Each year after opening, the
project will generate:
- 300-400 full-time jobs
- $31 million in Lancaster County-produced
goods and services
- $11 million in personal income
- The project will:
- Attract 114,000 - 147,500
new guests to Lancaster County every year;
- Produce additional
business for existing hotels in Lancaster County;
- Be the
centerpiece of renewed efforts to promote Lancaster County
as a regional and national destination;
- Increase revenues
for existing restaurants, retailers and attractions;
- Foster
a revitalization in the growth of new, entrepreneurial
businesses;
- Create jobs for an untapped pool of unemployed
and underemployed City residents who live close
to the
project. These will
be new employment opportunities, in the core
of the downtown area,
helping
to spark and reinvigorate the literal heart of
the City; and
- Create a revitalized gathering place for
Lancaster residents to work and to socialize while restoring
a sense of civic
pride and enthusiasm
