You better watch out: There's something in your stocking Candy canes for the principals in Penn Square Partners who stepped up years ago at the request of the Downtown Investment District to keep the Watt & Shand site from turning into a parking garage. Many lumps of coal (dark begets dark) to Mr. Robert Edwin Field and other hotel/convention center opponents who constantly carp about what they believe to be a Lancaster Newspapers editorial bias toward the Penn Square project. They refuse to acknowledge that without their access to the newspapers' editorial pages, their voices would not be heard. They get much more than their share of letters published. Case in point: Mr. Field's unhelpful comments are published today as they were the past two Sundays.

County chief has hefty war chest Since taking office in 2004, Shellenberger has raised $18,043.33. More than $16,000 of that came during 2005, when the three-member board -- Shellenberger is the chairman -- became embroiled in disputes over the hotel/convention center and the sale of Conestoga View nursing home.
In the first six months of this year, he received only one contribution, worth $1,000. Information about the rest of 2006 is not yet available.
